Description
Scabiosa Atropurpurea 'Black knight' is a short lived, clump forming perennial producing pincushion-shaped flowers that rise on thin stems above the foliage throughout summer and early autumn.
The flowers are a deep maroon, almost black with contrasting white stigmas.
Great for adding height to beds and borders and bees and butterflies will love them too.
When to sow | Sow indoors Jan to April and August to September. |
Where to sow | Sow indoors in moist compost filled pots or trays 0.5cm (1/4in) deep and cover the seeds with a very fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place in a warm position (temperature of 15-20°C (60-68°F) is ideal). |
What to do next | When seedlings are large enough to handle and all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Then transplant into final growing position planting them 30cm (12in) apart. |
