Description
Sweet Pea - Red Ensign is a tall growing Spencer variety, with striking red blooms on long strong stems. Perfect for cutting flowers and bouquets, it reaches a height of approximately 180cm - 220cm tall.
The plants are heat tolerant and produce well into summer and are great for cut flower bouquets.
When to sow | September through to April |
Where to sow | Sow indoors or under glass, 2.5cm (1in) deep in compost filled root trainers. |
Sow outdoors direct where they are to flower, preferably in a sunny position , either in a pot or border, 2.5cm (1in) deep and 5cm (2in) apart. | |
What to do next | Harden off seedlings sown indoors or under glass during late March to be planted out in flowering site from April onwards. |
Thin direct sown seedlings to 10cm (4in) apart. | |
Protect outdoor seedlings from mice, slugs and snails. | |
As the plants grow provide support with tall canes or netting. Can grow up to 6ft tall. | |
Pick flowers regularly to encourage new growth and cut away tendrils. | |
